Higher efficiency and quality thanks to new trimming algorithm

ArcelorMittal Hamburg is using artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize the trimming process in wire rod production. As a result, the proportion of scrap in total production is reduced and product quality improved.

"Previously, we cut the wire after 50 meters, for instance. The AI now determines the optimum cut length, which in this example is 35 meters. Together with SST, we have implemented a software that allows us to improve quality and produce additional meters of outstanding wire every day," emphasizes project manager Dr. Michel Wurlitzer, ArcelorMittal Hamburg.
